  • ¼ cup (60ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic (about 2 cloves)
  • 2 teaspoons anchovy paste
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • For Serving:
  • 3 heads Bibb lettuce, quartered
  • 2 to 3 ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges

How To Make Green Goddess Dressing

  1. Blend the dressing: In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, scallions, basil, lemon juice, garlic, anchovy paste, salt, and black pepper. Blend until smooth.
  2. Add sour cream: Pulse just until blended. Do not over-mix.
  3. Refrigerate (if needed): If not using immediately, refrigerate until serving.
  4. Assemble the salad: Cut each Bibb lettuce head into quarters, removing some of the core. Arrange on salad plates.

Recipe Tips

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh basil and lemon juice give the best flavor. Avoid bottled lemon juice.
  • Make it ahead: This dressing gets better after a few hours in the fridge, so make it ahead if possible.
  • Thin it out: If the dressing is too thick, add a tablespoon of water or extra lemon juice.
  • Versatile uses: Try it as a dip for veggies, a spread for sandwiches, or a drizzle over grilled chicken.
  • Adjust the salt: Anchovy paste adds saltiness, so taste before adding extra.

How To Store Leftovers

Transfer leftover green goddess dressing to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days. Stir well before each use.
